What it is. Short fiction in ten leaves. The first is a calm, unsigned account of a woman’s death in a flooded pumping station in 1987, deposited with a town archive. Each of the nine leaves after it is a correction slip: it strikes out words in that account, puts others in their place, and gives the reasons.

Try this. Press Read first correction, then Next correction to turn the leaves in order; Previous leaf goes back one. The Loose leaves list jumps to any leaf by its subject. Open Compare with the deposited account to see the original under the current leaf, and press Read from the beginning to start again.

More about this piece

Look for. Each slip corrects only a few phrases, yet the story moves with them: the date, the woman’s name, what was in her bag, who else was in the building, and, near the end, who has been writing the corrections.

Keep in mind. Fiction throughout: every person, place and record in it is invented. Nothing is saved, so reloading the page returns to the first leaf.

The blue door

A deposited account. Nine corrections. The event does not change, but the person permitted to tell it does.

All people, places and records in this story are invented. Read in order, then use the history to retrace the evidence.
